Air-to-Air heatpump
In which homes / buildings is it worth installing air-to-air heat pumps?

LLWPs are an ideal decarbonisation solution, particularly in buildings that are currently already heated decentrally (e.g. with gas boilers), as there is no need to install centralised pipework and heating pipes. The insulation standard also plays a subordinate role in the use of LLWP, as there is no risk of heat loss as with water-based heating systems.

How do I operate the air-to-air heat pump?

The indoor units can be controlled individually either by infrared remote control or by a smart solution (app or voice control). This enables customised and needs-based heating, so your tenants can heat the way they want.

dekarbo
What do we do as dekarbo?

Our offer is a one-stop solution for the installation of climate-friendly air-to-air heat pumps - from planning and installation of decentralised heat pumps and hot water supply to digital monitoring and maintenance of the systems - dekarbo° supports you throughout the entire life cycle of the systems.

dekarbo
Who is the dekarbo company?

We are a 50:50 joint venture between LEG Wohnen and Soeffing Kälte Klima. Our aim is to combine the expertise of both divisions in order to offer an efficient and economically attractive heat pump solution for the German housing stock in an independently operating company.

What are the advantages of the special filter function of the air-to-air heat pump?

The plasma quad filter technology achieves very effective air purification and odour neutralisation.Air purification through plasma enzyme filterThe plasma ionisation and the electrostatically charged filter separate even the smallest particles, e.g. pollen, bacteria and other allergens. Odour neutralisation through plasma odour filterWith a surface area of approx. 300 m2, the filter removes odours from the room air particularly effectively.Plasma Quad Plus filterThe air purification system with powerful plasma technology has the functions of the Plasma Quad filter and even filters microparticles of 2.5 μm from the air.

How does a hot water storage tank differ from an instantaneous water heater?

An instantaneous water heater heats water when it is needed. This requires a lot of energy in a short time, which cannot currently be provided by the network operator in every building. An alternative is a hot water storage tank, which holds a supply of hot water. The water is heated slowly over a longer period of time, which reduces the load on the electricity grids. We also avoid extensive construction work in your home and in the building and minimise disruption.

What exactly is an air-to-air heat pump?

Air-to-air heat pumps (AHHP) are also known colloquially as air conditioning systems. However, it is less well known that this electricity-powered technology can also be used for heating. It utilises the free environmental energy of the outside air, i.e. it draws in the air from outside and heats it up. In technical terms, the temperature of the air is raised via the so-called refrigerant circuit and the thermal energy generated is then transferred to the indoor air in the home: it becomes warm. The technology is therefore similar to the function of an "inverted refrigerator". dekarbo installs modern, highly efficient and climate-friendly multi-split units, i.e. one outdoor unit is installed in each flat, which is connected to the indoor units in the rooms to be heated.

Can I also heat hot water with an air-to-air heat pump?

No, an LLWP is a self-contained system that cannot be used to heat hot water, only air. There will be a separate solution for hot water: Depending on the building and flat layout, there are various options, in particular a hot water storage tank, possibly also an electric instantaneous water heater. You will be informed about which hot water solution will be installed in your home following individualised planning.

What must be observed with regard to filter cleaning?

You should clean all air filters in the indoor units you have installed approximately every three months. This is the only way to ensure high efficiency and the function of improving air quality. We would therefore like to emphasise the particular importance of filter cleaning. The air filters must be removed from the indoor units, cleaned with rinsing water and, once they are dry again, reinserted in the units.

Air-to-Air heatpump
How loud are the air-to-air heat pump indoor units?

The appliances we install are among the quietest air handling units on the market at the lowest fan speed. The so-called sound pressure level, i.e. the volume, is only up to 19 decibels at a distance of one metre from the device. In comparison, this noise level is even quieter than the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. The appliances are therefore virtually silent and ideal for use in your bedroom.

Air-to-Air heatpump
Can I also use the air-to-air heat pump for cooling?

No, not yet. In order for the LLWP installed in your home to be used for cooling, a number of legal requirements must first be met. This is not the case at the moment. As soon as the cooling function is possible, we will be happy to inform you in a separate letter.

Can legionella bacteria form in a hot water storage tank?

All built-in appliances have an automatic protection programme and heat up at regular intervals to a temperature at which legionella cannot form.

How do I operate a hot water cylinder?

The hot water cylinder has a rotary knob for setting the water temperature. We recommend the "E" (Eco) setting. If you notice that there is not enough hot water available on a regular basis, gradually increase the temperature control knob. It will take a few hours for the new setting to take effect.  To save energy, you can also lower the temperature if you have a lower hot water requirement. If you need a large amount of hot water (e.g. if several people want to shower when you have visitors), press the "quick heat button" 1-2 hours before use. If you are not at home for a longer period of time, we recommend switching the temperature setting to low.

How will the dekarbo company contact you to arrange an appointment for the installation?

We will try to contact you by telephone, e-mail or letter.

How do I clean the internal filter of the indoor unit?

Air-to-Air heatpump
Do I still need radiators if I use an air-to-air heat pump?

No, the old radiators are no longer needed. However, as it would involve a lot of effort, construction noise and soiling to remove the radiators, they will generally be retained.  However, there is no reason why you should not place furniture or other objects in front of the radiators, as they are no longer functional.

Air-to-Air heatpump
What are the advantages of the air-to-air heat pump?
  • Modern and energy-efficient heating technology.
  • Independence from expensive gas
  • Quick heating of your home
  • Improved air quality thanks to filter function
  • Contribution to climate protection

Air-to-Air heatpump
Can I also use the air-to-air heat pump to cool the rooms?

No, this is not yet possible. However, we are working on a solution together with LEG.

Bathroom heating
How is my bathroom heated and do I get hot water?

Another efficient and power-operated heating system, such as a splash-proof infrared heater, will be installed in your bathroom. We will inform you about which heating solution and hot water preparation system will be installed in your bathroom after we have planned your individualised flat.

Air-to-Air heatpump
How do I utilise the system efficiently?

You can customise your air-to-air heat pump to your individual requirements for each room. The air-to-air heat pump constantly maintains the set temperature.
